Hey, this is something quite strange. I guess all of you may have known that the pagerank update is going on. No official word though. But all of us are seeing changes in our Pageranks.

But, in my case, when I check the page rank for http://www.webmaster-dome.com, the page rank is 4. But when I check it for http://webmaster-dome.com, its still zero. See for your self with the pagerank checker.

I know the tool can go wrong. But I got this result from every pagerank metric I can get my hands on. Why is it like this ? 2 ranks for the same top domain ?

My google toolbar also used to show this result. But, today, every page showed 0/10 pagerank. This is really really strange. I got some PR 5 and above links from other sites through the anchor links to my site from their blog posts. Not exchange, ok ?

And, in the future, which link (http://www.webmaster-dome.com or http://webmaster-dome.com) should I promote ? Pretty lot of questions. But I'm in real need of an answer.

www.domain.com is technically a subdomain. That's why its important to send everyone (visitors and bots) to one version or the other via a 301 redirect.

Hi Astro,

First of all you have a canonical issue with your website. First fix that with a 301 redirect. Redirect http://domain.com to http://www.domain.com/

The fact that your http://www.domain.com has a PR and only domain.com hasn't is because Google has only taken up that page and has not taken http://domain.com into consideration.

Do the 301 redirect and start promoting http://www.domain.com/ Remember canonical issues might raise a duplicate content alarm which will surely be harmful for your site.

I am saying -- Ditto >> Norman Clark <<

Non-www and www version of domain are 2 different urls for SEs. Your non-www domain has no PR just because it hasn't enough back links for a PR. Just do, as everyone else say, 301 redirect from non-www to www.

This may help you..

Well, I think I've heard people complaining that they cannot get to the www page. Its not my case. Some guy in some other forum told so. So, is there something like this ? Does browsers, ISPs or servers block www pages ?

I know this may be a silly question. But just in case, you know. I can't afford to go offline. I will lose my readers.

I would highly appreciate if someone can answer " Are www sometimes blocked by ISPs, Browsers or whatever ?".

I remember once, I got a reply from my webhost customer support. I asked why their homepage wasn't visible. They told me "Try the URL without the www. " So, what does that mean anyway ?

ISPs and browsers don't block www. subdomains, Why would they?
Sometimes people don't set up thier DNS properly which means the www. version sometimes isn't visible.

Google ranks for the main page not for the domain name. That is why it is so.
