I run an Off Topic forum. As you can see in my sig, we cover all kinds of topics. I'm getting lucky and drawing in quite a few new members (over 800) and I have 40 people online the majority of the daytime hours. But I've never zero'd in on keywords for FF (short for ForumsForums.com).

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what would be the best keywords to zero in on?
TIA!

Google also has an external keywords tool now that does not require an Adwords account.

http://www.inventory.overture.com is not working. Even the tool Adam suggested uses the inventory overture site in it's script so it is not working.

Hopefully it will be back up soon.

Use iwebtool keyword suggestion tool to get some idea. But your content covers too many areas, you'd better work on SEO for each area.

Yep, that is exactly the conclusion I'm coming to. I need to FOCUS on a few key areas and work on new ones as I finish up others.

Lets say I want to key on vehicles & tractors. I have a car forum, Truck forums & Tractor forum. I know I would need secondary pages which talk about each area. Anyone care to help with the meta tags and wording for Keying on cars?

Would I need meta tags for all vehicle makes?
What would be a good sentence in the text of my page for mentioning cars?
I just yesterday read that a <h1> header about cars is worth more than a header made just by using larger font. Geesh. very picky aren't they?

Any other tips you can think of?
I need all the help I can get.
Thanks in advance all!!!!

That's spamming, theseokit (not to mention unbelievably bad etiquette.)

DotHQ: the best advice you're going to get on this subject is the simplest. For each page, focus on 1-2 keywords and phrases. Clean up that page. Make sure it's useful to your end user. Give it some quality content. Then repeat.

The more of these pages you can generate (USEFUL ones, not total pieces of crap), the better off you'll be both from an SEO and more importantly a user point of view.

theseokit,

Enough with the "You can see more info on my website or buy my book" type ad posts.

Speaking of keyword suggestion tools, we just added one to our forums:

The overture tool is virtually useless now. The data is very inaccurate. If you want a good tool use seomoz/seobook tools(seobook uses overture too however).

I created a list of good tools here: http://www.1stsearchenginerankings.c...ful-seo-tools/

Thanks jabber. That is a good un.

Question:
when I ask for keywords relating to 'debate' w3spin suggests both:

debate topic
and
debate topics

I thought that if I had debate topic as a keyword, then a search for debate topics would also hit my debate topic keyword. In other words I do not need to cover the plural of the keyword. Is this correct? I've seen the same on other keyword sites suggested in this thread, and it's making me question what I thought was right (no keywords in the plural forum needed). Now I'm thinking it would be an 'exact' match which would move you up in search rankings, since the match is exact.
