I know there soooo many PR4 sites, so they arent worth discussing,

but after current update, many sites have gotten a pr5. Do you think theres a big difference between PR5 and PR6?
Because sites that are very heavily used and liked and old are usually pr6, and rarely are sites pr7+

so what im asking is there a big STEPPING stone between PR5 and PR6 and will link building still be the solution to get to a PR6?

The page rank is determined by off site factors. In bound links mainly. If you have a pr 5 and want to get to a 6 then get more links!

Many of us don't place any emphasis on PR anymore, as that "buzzword" was started off as a Goo-Goo joke that back-fired ... it's far more important to make sure your site validates 100%, and to have relevant, fresh content.

The difference between a PR6 site and a PR5 site is 1PR. Basic math really.

PR is still part of the algorithm, but if you're spending your time worrying about what your PR is and how to get more you're going about things the wrong way.

And to answer your question yes it will be harder to go from PR5 to PR6 than it was to go from PR4 to PR5. It's all based on a logarithmic scale and for every increase in PR you get it will be harder to get the next increase.

But really chasing PR is not a very useful pursuit.

PR can be important at times, it is used for trading services like link exchange and selling sites.

Lets get into the question, PR6 has more quality links than PR5. In short, 1 PR can give more benefit to the site.

and of course the difference between 5 and 6 on the useless toolbar display could be 0.000000000000001

it could be already at 5.499999999999999 which would show a 5 because of integer rounding.

I agree, the only time a page rank is useful, is to people who take advantage of others by saying my page rank is better then theirs. We have all done it but that doesn't make it right

Well, let's put it this way, PR measures the number of quality sites linked to your site. Meaning, if you have a PR, sites may say that you have a quality site.

If PR is useless, there is no reason for Google to implement that kind of tool

The problem though is PR isn't automatically a measure of quality. People who know how to manipulate the system can artificially inflate the PR of their sites.

PR is really just a measure of the PR flowing into your site. It's not necessarily a quality thing.

PR used to hold a lot of importance in the Google algorithm. It was the basis of everything when they first started out. But people did figure out ways to manipulate and they've responded by not placing as much emphasis on it.

It's still used in the algorithm and it's still used in determining how often and how deep a site gets crawled, but it's nowhere near as important as it once was.

There are many well known and influential SEOs who would like to see Google remove the toolbar PR, because it really doesn't do what most people think it does. It's bif marketing for Google though. PR is associated with Google alone and the more we all talk about PR the more we all talk about Google.

I'm not saying PR is useless. I might use it to make a quick snap judgment about a page or site, but I don't worry what the PR of any of my pages is and I don't base most SEO decisions on the PR of a page or site. People who see SEO in terms of PageRank and work to specifically increase Page Rank are really going about SEO the wrong way. They may increase PR, but that doesn't mean they will have a more successful site.

vangogh - thanks for sharing the information, yet please answer the follwing: i want to buy link from 2 online arcade website - 1 is PR5 and the other PR6. they are all tageted and very much relevent to the site i want to link to. Which one do you think, will bring better seo/serp results? from what i know - the PR6. Yet being 15 i must respect your knowledge - waiting for the asnwer

Lets put it this way, in some articles, made by some specialists, PR is defined as number of quality backlinks, well as we know, "quality" backlinks are links indexed or recognized by Google. Google's standards are in terms of quality, in which some of the webmasters say.

Based on the research made, PR is just a measurement of backlinks indexed by Google. The thing is PR can be manipulated but, Google may also find a way on how to make things more difficult.

To answer your question... the gap between pr5 and pr6 is actually one of the hardest to achieve for the average webmaster.

Getting pr4 is pretty easy, 5 takes a while, but 6 is tough.

Neither, Either or both

The value you see in the toolbar has nothing to do with SERP results

What will make a difference to results will be the anchor text used in the links.

BTW PR5 could be actually 4.5 to 5.49 and PR6 could be 5.5 to 6.49. So, the one showing PR5 could be 5.49 and the PR6 could be 5.5.

Now how much difference do you think the two values could make.

Looking at PR as a measure of "quality" is misleading and futile. DON'T DO IT !!!!!

ok, thanks for the answer. i just want to get it straight now. you are saying - that if i have 2 IDENTICAL site, with identical traffic. One is PR5, the other is PR6, and i have i am chossing to put this link on them: cool online games. are you saying that by me, paying more $$ for the PR6, it would make no difference in my ranks than if i buy a PR5? Do you understand my question? maybe i am not being very clear. anyways, thanks for your time.

It would make no difference to your rankings if one page was PR1 and the other was PR9
