If I place links to my sites on pixel sites like

<link drop to yet-another-pixel-site-with-lots-of-hyphens.com removed>

will it help in SEO?

No, but it will help you spend money for no good reason at all. The pixel fad was just that...a fad. Now that it's all but dead, we can move on to the next silly fad.

The pixel fad is the fad whereby people buy pixel ads on sites that otherwise offer nothing (think of The Million Dollar Homepage). The most common "reason" (and i use that term loosely) is they think it'll boost ranking among search engines.

But, because the sites otherwise offer nothing, they generally don't do well and don't send a lot of traffic (if any at all) to the advertisers. They're a complete waste of money.

Actually... I was considering using a pixel ad script to gather donations to my sister's non-profit children outreach program. People can buy a pixel block, and put their well-wishes to the kids.

Might as well use a pixel script to help others rather than helping myself.

memberpro I think you may have just hit on the one useful aspect a pixel site can bring. The problem with them is they are useless as advertising mechanisms, but if it's all meant to gather donations then the space isn't really about advertising, but more a thank you for contributing.

As long as it's all done legitimately in the name of charity it seems like it's a good idea. People would be making donations for the space instead of purchasing space for ads. If someone clicks through to their site great, if not it's no big deal really since the donation is its own reward.

I found an example of a pixel site, and now everything you guys said makes so much more sense. No, an ad here won't help with SEO, because there really isn't any content ( in the sense that no one would be interested in looking at a pixel ads page, and in the sense that the ads aren't even text ).

Also I agree with VanGogh and MemberPro that donating to charity is its own reward. Someone was telling me brain scans show giving to a worthy cause lights up our pleasure center. And acknowledging donors might help other people jump on the bandwagon and do something to help make the world a better place.

I agree with the above two posters. Something like that, memberpro, is well worth the while as long as the money goes to the kids. Something like that is well worth supporting.

If you do it, set up a PayPal account for it and let us know. I'll donate.

Thanks Adam... I am helping her design her site right now. She has been running her program for about 3 years now, so when all the site is up and running I will post a link.

yes 100% of all the money goes to the kids and running the program. I am moding the script to email the person who makes the donation a certificate of donation so they can claim it on their taxes. It is actually 100% legit!

memberpro this really is the first time I've ever thought a pixel site was useful. I think it's the perfect match for one and you deserve some applause for the idea.
