Why would you want an IRC channel for such silly things? First of all, link exchanges/ad sales are stupid SEO tricks that just don't work. Second, you have to deal with IRCers. Seems to me that's two strikes right off the top.

i dont need it for link exchange but i told for example.... i just need popular irc channel and i dont know any ;/

If their was a real IRC channel for web designers people would just spam it with their useless ads.

A lot of cool people use IRC, like some of the developers of the operating systems and the rest of the applications that run your web sites.

I agree there's your classic IRC lamers, n00bs, spammers, but the proportion isn't any different than any other social places.

A well maintained IRC channel and client makes that annoyance unnoticeable.

You should check the IRC channel #webmaster on the Undernet IRC network.
People talk about their web sites and help with problems.
I find it interesting for real-time feedback.

I always thought irc was dead now, too many bots and spammers on there, its very hard to find a decent channel, and that was the last tiem i tryed it, which was years ago, im sure its got worse since then !

There are still some good servers out there. I haven't found any "webmaster" channels that I enjoy. However there are a couple of mySQL and PHP channels that I frequent. I've learned a lot just listening to various conversations, and seeing what problems other people have run into.
