Basic SEO help

I am a newbie to web hosting and submitted my site through google, msn, and yahoo. Neither yahoo nor google have indexed my site yet. It has been close to 2 months, does it usually take that long or is there something I can add to my website to make the indexing easier?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Jesse

Welcome newcomer! May you gorge at the proverbial trough of our knowledge.
First off, you're confusing two concepts. Web hosting relates to the server that your website sits on. It has very little to do with search engine promotion, and in your particular case likely nothing. So let's move on.
Search engine submission is no longer the fastest way to get a site indexed. If you want a site to be indexed, you need to get a few links to it from various places. The easiest thing you can do is to create a forum signature here and add the link to the signature. It'll usually get crawled by big G within about a day and Yahoo! within 2-3.
In other words, search engines index new sites more quickly based on links from existing sites.

Yes this is normal. You have to do much more than just submit your site. you are better off learning how to use SEO to get your site in the top pages for keywords.
You can also just SEO with articles that you write with your website in the bio. Submit them to free article directories and within about 2 days to a couple of weeks you can get listed on google that way.
Good Luck,
Benjamin

Generate a site map here http://net-review.co.uk/free-seo-tools/
and then submit it to google by creating an account my sites are always indexed straight away but that doesn't mean you going to show up for any searches.

What's the URL?
Normally when asking a question, including the URL will help people go see what the problem is and how to solve it ... but in your case, just replying with the address for your site will probably be enough to get you listed in Google and the others.
Keep in mind, the engines don't care that you want traffic. They aren't there to bring it to you. They care about finding the most relevant web sites that will make searchers using their engine happy. Unfortunately they don't really do that by looking at what's on your site to determine whether it's any good or not ... which means submitting to the engines doesn't really do much for you. They use links and their anchor text more than anything to decide which sites are likable. When they see a link to your site, they figure you must be important if the site with the link is willing to send their readers your way. So they add you to their index, and you start showing up in queries. It should half a week.
Normally people get the ball rolling by visiting the " Submit to my Directory" sub-forum on this site, and adding their site to the free ones. This gets them a link, although it can take time, and those first few links will usually get you into the index.

Welcome. If your site has meta tags that include title, description and keywords. If none, you can used any seo tools for your keywords. Then submit it to the major search engine and submit it to web directories.Get more quality back links for your site so as to easily indexed. Google evaluate the site for the number of backlinks, Yahoo and MSN is for the content of your site, keyword title used in your site.
Also update your content for it is the one to read by the user.

SEO is a lot of fun, but a lot of work. I suggest you start by doing what the others have suggested, then search google for SEO tips and the like, will help you out a lot!

there is no reason to ever submit your site to google.
get people to link to it and google will find it.. otherwise what's the point?

Make sure any links aren't the generic 'click here' though - the anchor text for each link must include a relevant keyword that links back to matching keywords on your site
eg. as your site sells the 'necklaces' makes sure the links back to your site includes the keyword phrase - eg buy necklaces here
search engines (especially google) work on relevancy and backlinks, if many links containing the phrase 'necklaces' point to your site, you'll gradually make your way up the listings for that particular phrase.
plus use H1, H2 tags with your keywords in

Jesse - These guys are 100% right. Simply posting your url in the forum is enough to get it crawled and indexed by most of the engines.
One thing that you may want to do is submit this site to the review my website section and get some suggestions. I followed the link and am not exactly sure what the site is about. I suspect that you are wanting to sell your jewelery but that is a guess at this point.
Cleaning up the site then adding Title tags, Meta Tags, and descriptions will take you a long way in the SEO world.
Just my thoughts and long. Welcome to the world of coding and getting your site indexed.
