that's true articles give benefit from backlinks and traffic, and also make sure your titles are new and very interesting to bait surfers!

Writing good articles is hard....Writing them in another language is very much harder I meen mucho mucho difficulto amigo
Fortunatley for me the web is predominately Enlish written and I don't have to learn a whole new language - Respect to people who speak English as a second language and often do it better than native English speakers.
you can get a traffic or backlinks that you were wanted to get if you write an articles that would give beneficial to all that pass on. creating a good article must be informative and relative.. cheers
Article submission isn't as effective as it was a year or two ago. You're best bet is finding a few high quiality directories (I think ezinearticles is one) and submitting a very good article to them. It's probably best to write different variations of the article for each site you submit to.
You'd also be best not to include that same article on your own site. Better would be to rewrite it to make it unique if you do want to add it to your site.
