Same IP websites
|

The story:
I have 3 sites that are on a shared host. They were all designed by me, therefore I put links below the 2 other sites to my design website.
--------------
Would it be a problem that they are all on the same IP and linking to each other? I heard that it wasn't good.
I think it shouldn't be a problem. There are 50 more websites having the same IP around the world.
Am I right that I should not worry about it?

There's no harm that will come to you. Some people say you'll get less good than if the sites were on different IP addresses, but they're probably wrong. I wouldn't be surprised if most of the web sites in the world are on the same server and IP address with at least one other site, probably a shared server hosting dozens in most cases. I don't even know what other sites are hosted on the same server as mine.
Anyway, you'll probably want to sign up for webmaster tools and Google Analytics. They're pretty handy, and free, but they're also both owned by Google ... so if you do use them, they'll know anyway they're all your sites, even if you paid to host each of them on a different machine.
All in all, it's not worth another thought.

I have a lot more then 2 websites, as you can see in my signature, they are all from the same IP address and haven't had any problems (Seo wise or otherwise) due to this fact. So you should be fun and you don't have to worry about this kind of problem.

Yeah, I considered diversifying my hosting for SEO reasons - my sites generally sit on the same dedicated server, but after an informal survey of (quasi)-authorities on this, I decided not to bother.

If you are going to sell links from them you have to use different C Ip classes.

if those sites are links together, most likely the pr juice will be getting less merit. early this year i did some experiment on that, and google doesn't like it.

Thanks.

Providence: what is your reason for linking them together? SEO or your users?
If it's the users, link them together. If it's SEO, don't.
Basically the idea that search engines are concerned about are BS sites like the gopro.ca network, where they have hundreds of "related sites" full of minimal content generated by advertising (i.e. they sell their content) linking together. That's the stuff they're after.

Tch haven't you heard?
All the "experts" say it's bad
They don't know why it's bad or what it's bad for, they just know it's bad, and they have a mission to tell the world it's bad.

In defense of idiots, they do at least know why they think it's bad. They assume Google assumes you're trying to build a link farm.
I wouldn't be surprised if Google does know when you're up to that type of no good, regardless of what IP addresses are involved. I keep bringing this up and no one listens, but every web site in the world runs Google Analytics. Half of them with Adsense. Hello! You don't think telling Google your massively interlinked, zero content sites are all owned by the same person has anything to do with it? A little more than the server address maybe?
I forget who mentioned that Google is a domain registrar, and has access to data about who registered a domain name, for how long and when. It's a little like walking on hot coals and saying the problem is you don't have shoes on. The problem is you're walking on hot coals!!

I remember reading over a study that was conducted about this issue. I'm pretty sure you can search and fine it somewhere.
they took a sample of 100 keywords and checked top ranking websites for those. almost 50 came out unique and 50 came out on shared. which is what everybody is saying

You are most likely sharing the same IP address with alot of other customers of the same hosting company. I wouldn't worry about it. I would worry about the important things like design and marketing, etc.
