programmer earned lots in just one project.

It depends, but more often the programmer, but SEOs could have longer contract than the programmers.

It depends on more than that. It depends on the skill of the SEO or Programmer, it depends on the market for each skill set, it depends on how well the SEO or Programmer can market him/herself, and it depends ultimately on how much the clients of each are willing to pay.

A gambling site offered a SEO $10,000,000.00 to get their site to #1. The SEO turned it down. That guy makes more than a lot of programmers.

Like Adam said, it depends on an awful lot. Part of that is whether you're gonna work for yourself or for a boss?

I knew a programmer who contracted his services for £90 ($180?) / hour in the late 90's. But my example, like yours, doesn't prove which role earns more.

Ithink that you can find SEO who gets more money than programmer and vice versa as well. It depends on experience. More experience - more money.
