Does multiple sites in same hosting account hurt SEO?

Hi,

Sorry if the title was not very clear, but I didn't really know how to word it.

I have a hosting account with a huge amount of space. I have about 5 or 6 domain names all pointing to this same hosting space, all to a single PHP page. This PHP page simply checks the URL that was used to get there, then redirects to the correct content.

Will this affect my google rankings if I redirect in this way?

Any help and insight would be appreciated.

Thanks,

John

AFAIK Google does not have a way of knowing that these sites are hosted on a single hosting account.

Redirecting by using http headers does mess up your Google Analytics though, because all you will get as refering site is your own forwarding page.
Instead, I would use PHP to load the different HTML pages depending on the domain

If it's a 301 redirect, then no. If it's a 302, you're going to have problems.

Search engines allow for 301 redirects, particularly Google, for canonical reasons (i.e. to redirect a non-www to a www domain name).

By the way, how did you slip through the net with your domain name? Seems to me that Experts Exchange will be all over your *** as soon as they find out you've got the .co.za version of their domain.

So, um. I don't see how having more then one website can ding you. That would make no sence, lol. Google trying to ding you for owningmore then one website seems unlikely ...

Vasity read the question. It's not about owning more than one domain. It's about hosting them all on the same account and using a php redirect to direct traffic the appropriate domain.

By the way Google is a domain registrar. They don't offer it as a service, but they do have access to a lot of domain information. You can certainly hide things from them, but they know more about a domain than just it's IP.

This is good to know, and it just goes to prove "knowledge is power."
