I had never heard of the SEO pack plugin till you just mentioned it. I took a look at it seems ok, but it's certainly nothing magical.
For titles I customized my theme a little and I'm fine letting the post title essentially be the page title. The ability to write a custom title is nice, though.
I forget which plugin I'm using for the meta descriptions, but I have one. I think it might be the Another WP Meta Plugin, but I forget.
The ability to add meta keywords is useless.
I don't think you'll lose your old descriptions if you disable the plugin. They should be stored in the database now. I think the plugin just gives you an interface to change the default.
If you're unhappy with the current plugin or see something in SEO Pack that you have to have then it makes sense to switch. If not then you might as well keep the current plugin. SEO Pack seems pretty good. I haven't used it, but it looks like it offers some good options. It probably offers a few things like the meta keyword that are irrelevant. It does look like a useful plugin, but again it's nothing magical. There's more to seo than a plugin and if you're happy with the one you have now there's probably no reason to switch.
You shouldn't lose anything if you disable the current plugin, though so you can always try SEO Pack and see if you like it better.
