Hi guys

I have trawled many forums now and feel i am on the road to learning some SEO skills, I often see the phrase you will get banned from google thrown around on many forums by many so called SEO experts.

I just wondered if this really is as common as some SEO people keep pointing out ?

The problem with the word "banned" is that it's somewhat extended to include anything remotely related to a penalty.

I try not to use it and explain why something's a bad idea from a user point of view.

It's pretty hard to get banned. What i mean is it isn't something that will happen by accident. When people do get banned they tend know the reason and they knew it was likely to get them banned.

But there are people getting banned who practice black hat seo and i know some of them personally myself. My suggestion is that there is nothing to worry as long as you stay away from black hat seo techniques.

Black hat methods are not short of spam. The difference between black and white hat seo is pretty obvious.

if you build a lot of sites then usually at some point you will get a ban, sometimes for next to no reason. Usually some sort of error in the system

I have had clean sites disappear for a couple monthes then come back

and yes if you "spam" then its very possible to get your site banned

black hat techniques are the main reason for getting your site banned.

Only people with close to 0 SEO knowledge use the word "banned" in combination with Google SERPs. It is very hard to get actually "banned" from Google SERPs unless you are really doing some black hat marketing such as massive spam or other related tactics.

No you won't! As long as your sites are no duplicates and don't use black hate SEO methods, Google shouldn't (and as far as I know) WON'T!

Hi there

That quote proves the point im trying to make really, ive seen so many webmasters trying to worry other webmasters out of trying certain things, by saying that will get your site banned !

When in actual fact its really hard to get banned, I think just is just another symptom of some SEO people that actually know nothing !!

I've rarely heard that. Maybe you are just confused. What IS true and could possibly happen is if you make several sites using duplicate content - that way you may get banned. Also - if you were not sure about it, then why make a post with such "certainty" and "authority"? You should have asked people in the know whether you would get banned for owning several different sites, rather than making a rash statement on the subject

I saw a video from Matt Cuts (google video) saying that if you have hundreds of sites in the same server and there is some similarity among them you could get some banned.
