Ok so, I am considering starting a competitor board with this fellow:

http://www.warhammeralliance.com/forums/

What he's got:

-1 Year on me
-Nice clean design
-Nice CMS
-Updated and active news section
-Picture gallery with plenty of pics
-4.6k members

What I've got:

-A decent domain name
-6 or so years of experience skinning/administering forums
-vBulletin License
-And thats it.

So the odds are clearly stacked against me. I realize this. This is why I have posted here. I guess to be honest, I cant find anything wrong with his site or anything I could really improve upon. I think the only way I could even consider becoming a competitor is by creating just as slick of a design as his. With just as many features, and content. And maybe come up with some new ideas.

What do you guys think? Forget it, leave the niche to him and move on to a project with better odds of success?

I've always though about making a warhammer forum, but you have to make something that they havent got a great features

Yes this board is pretty much exactly how i wanted to do mine. So thats why im posting to see if you guys see something I could improve upon that I dont see.

You could always send him an offer he can't refuse.

But he might refuse it..

In any case, his skin isn't all that customized. You should be able to make a comparable skin pretty easily. Also, you will need to work on getting quality content up right away. Whether that's in the form of static pages or posts is up to you, but it's got to be done right away or your forum will suffer from the start. One thing he doesn't have is vBSEO. It's expensive but it could certainly help get you some traffic from search engines quickly.

lol, that forum is way bigger XD.

i dont think you would top either of those forums straight a way but after a few months im sure you could have all theve got and more, you just need some unique features. i would have started a warhammer forum ages ago ut ive only recently got into web design and forum design.

if you need any help manageing content etc. i am a great warhammer enthusiast and would be more than willing to help for free.

Much the same, I was going to start one until I saw the board above and larger ones. Got peeved and decided to create another one

Wow. Okay I hadnt even found the 27k member one. Thanks for pointing that out.

So this makes me think 2 things:

1. There is a strong community of warhammer online and even bigger of offline folks.
2. If its going to be even harder to get to where I want to be.

Illusion, you said there are even bigger ones? Can you show me all of the warhammer forums you know of? Thanks!

Another thing is, I had origionally planned to make the boards geared towards the anticipated MMORPG release - Warhammer Online.

But I feel like I should at least have a small section for the offline game too. Or do you think a "small" corner might offend those hardcore folks and it might be best to just talk only of the online game?

What you got to do is:

View all the forums

See what categories they got

Sign up see the members Features

Then Review it all

and you will see the gaps they are missing to put in your forum!
