Yeah, I tried a similar line once.. It kinda backfired and got my mum suspicious.

It's as if she filters out the whole sentance and hears only "Drugs!"

But yeah, some good advice there.

My dad still wants me to work in the IT Industry, even though I hate computers!

I know makin' websites is pretty much IT, but he is still skeptical that I can make as much as he does per year.

Well I have had a bit of support. I don't really disscuss business with my mother. She only trys to tell me what to do (a bit of a control freak). My father on the other hand is in business and supports and helps me out with loans or if I need some advice marketing he is always there.

I used to get that line, "Stop playing on the computer" until I bought myself a computer and moved out into our flat. Been bliss every since

Hi Joe,

My name is Steve and I am from the UK. I am new to the forum but Your thread I relate too and just had to make my first post.

I had a lovely partner and we have a 2 year old son. Like the rest of us I thought that if I could make money online I might be able to give up my drab job and spend more time with my family. The problem was that although I knew the opportunites were there like so many first time internet business seekers I got burnt. Lost lots of money and lost my family. My partner could not understand why I was donig it. I tried to explain the reasons but she could not understand and one day after coming home from work I came home to a letter to say she has left because she thought I had a gambling problem and lost my mind. That was nearly 2 years ago (I still see my son thankfully) and unitl now I could not get anybody to understand internet home business ventures so I am glad to have found a post from someone experiencing similar problems. Finaly this year I am making some money from the internet but I think it really does take experience and finding the right people to trust before
you can get anywhere. The only think to get people who dont understand onside is to show a paycheck.

wow that's a very sad story but didnt you realise you were breaking apart from your family, if it was that serious it would be worth leaving the online business to keep your family.

My mother keeps telling me to go back to College. She says that this money will not stay consistent like a real job. I just laughed out loud and drove away in my BMW M5.

You should never yell at your mother.

Have you invested in other things? Like property and what not? You could just show her the multiplicity of houses you own and then s****** behind her back

Even the mom of one of the guys who owns google keeps telling him to finish his degree.

Some moms loose track of the goal. Their goal is to make their kids successful. They just think that since their parenting magazines said that successful kids go to college then there is no other route to success.

I am finishing my 4 year degree next semester but it's my goal that I don't have to do job hunting for a life of stress and working for other people who probably know less than I do.

Fortunately, my mom is pretty supportive

I wouldn't mind getting a degree, but when you are sitting in high school doing subjects that bore you to living hell (I mean what am I gonna do with cooking when I get a job as a billionaire :P)

Well, some questions are better left unanswered

My parents have worked hard labor their entire lives. They're constantly telling me how impractical it is to try to make a living doing online work. I think it's partly because they just can't comprehend income without doing tangible work, and somewhat because they're jealous that I'm making my living online and they have to clock in every morning at 6 am.

Needless to say, I don't have any support offline.
