I think this will bring a lot of discussion.
I have a semi-large teen forum, and on there im known as "jake" the admin. It takes common sense to known that a teen forum will be filled with posts like "hey" and "sup" and stuff like that. From the start I was 'typing' like I do now, semi-professional. But I saw that the teens on the forum found it weird that I was typing correctly, and they even commented something like "hey why do you type proper? its the internet". So I began to change my 'online-personality' after that to act more like a kid. People started responding more and on our myspace i had people posting such things as "thanks for being a cool dude" etc etc.
Another example, say you own a rap forum. Do you talk "gangster" to relate to your members?
I think this should be done, for the success of the forum but it feels weird posting and knowing you're not being yourself.
Your thoughts?
