Creatively placed blended contectual ads seem to work best on my forums. You want them above the scroll and near content if possible.

Lee, which of your forums would you say has the best ad integration?

Text ads using contextual advertisers such as Google Adsense or YPN work the best imo. You want them above the fold like Lee stated and you want them blended well. Pictures next to the images are very helpful as well in producing a much higher CTR rate.

I tried a 728x90 leaderboard with pictures above it on one of my (non-forum) web sites and the CTR was approximately half that of a 336x280 unit.

Lee, I see that you are using a 336x280 unit as a leaderboard. Hmmm...

It is weird how it various per forum. I have tried the opposite of you placing the 336x280 unit after the first post and removing the leaderboard and saw tremendous earnings drop.

I guess if it doesn't work for you do what works best.... just got to experiment

At present, no ad systems work well with forums.

Let's think about it. If you have a forum with 20,000 threads, that means you should theoretically have at least 20,000 content rich pages indexed in search engines. If any advertising system was able to generate just $0.25 per thread for you, that would mean $5,000 per month in your pocket. Heck, $0.25 is often just one Google Adsense click.

No, nothing works well right now. We, as forum owners, only take what we can get. Of course, that is going to change soon.

Is there an explaination on how that is going to change somewhere on this forum? If so, I will find it. I'm a newb, just started browsing.

If this has not been covered please give me some info. Thanks!!
