Would vBulletin be good for articles?

While brainstorming last night and came up with a great idea for a site, and believe discussions to be a big part of it's success. Normally I would go with Drupal for everything but I am waiting for version 5 to come out before using it again (though version 4.7 is not completely left out).

But my old vBulletin [owned] license is not being used, which expired when version 3.6.x versions were out. So I can use the latest vBulletin features but I have not paid any attention to the mod scene (I have been using Drupal for a while). Would vBulletin have mods available for articles? I looked in vbulletin.org and came up with no such mod (!). Has anyone found any good ones? How many advise against using vBulletin at all? Thanks.

The best portal system I've used has been CMPS. Its got a **** ton of customization.

I'd also suggest vB Advanced for vBulletin.

Textpattern seems pretty nice. From wikipedia:
Quote:
it is often listed among blogging tools, but its aim is to be a high-quality general-purpose CMS suitable for deployment in many contexts.
It has it's own code format, much like bbcode, called textile.
Here is an example:
Quote:
"(classname)link text(title tooltip)":link_address
It outputs valid xhtml transitional and valid css.

Plus it's free and open-source.

FYI everyone - CMPS only displays the articles on the homepage in a certain format. When you link to the article itself it's just a plain old forum thread.

That's why I recommend a combination CMPS and GeekArtices (linked above). Very effective.

I like the GARS (geek article & review system) as well, it works great in a vB forum for articles or reviews or whatever.

Exactly. Make a nice looking module in vBa CMPS to highlight your article index but then use something like GARS to make your article look like an 'article' versus a forum thread.

You can try vbarticles by madebymary.com. I'm currently using it on one of my sites. Has some good features. The only thing I do not like so far, is the a certain usergroup permission. If you want a usergroup to be able to add an article the setting is add/edit/delete article. I would prefer that the user be unable to delete their article. But that is just me. I'm thinking of switching a few other forums I own over to it. Also there is no "SEO friendly" urls yet.
