Do you think it would be more beneficial for someone with an arcade installed on their forum to make it only playable to members to encourage registrations, or to allow guests to play as well to get a taste of how your site is and convince them to register?

I ask because I am thinking about installing an arcade and just would like to know which method would be the best for increasing membership. My guess would be to only allow it to members but I'd like to see what the rest of you think.

well if your looking for incentives to have people register then that answers your question. the arcade is a resource so you don't want to have guest just eating away at it.

maybe what you can do is try a week one way and then switch it up and see how your turn around is. me personally i had it members only.

I had to think about this to when I installed an arcade, so I came up with this solution:

Allow it for guests, BUT, make it so they can only play a certain amount of games. Let them play 2-3 times, and then have an annoucement saying, "Hey, you have to register to continue playing, it's free, easy, and fast!".

Something similiar to that

I think I am going to set it up as members only. Another question I have is should I charge members points to play the arcade? When I install the arcade I'm also installing a points system.

Thanks for all your input ^_^

Not a bad idea to keep the arcade junkies active on the forum as well.

My arcades don't require membership, but if you sign up, you get additional features like being able to comment on games, submit games, create your own personal favorite games list, etc. After all, I make my money from impressions, clicks, and repeat visits. Requiring your users to sign up before they can play your games when there are a zillion other arcade sites out there seems counterproductive to me.

I think that's the best idea. It lets the casual visitor play, but allows an incentive to join.
