I HATE IT. Is there a fire sure way to get rid of this spam, not just get rid of it but to stop it!? I am frustrated. Please help!

I have and still receive spam. The captcha not working? What do you guys use to prevent spam (if any

That will do you absolutely no good at all. Has nothing to do with the version of vbulletin.

I have tried the captcha and verifying email addresses, does absolutely no good. Spammers are now getting access to tons of email addresses and getting passed all that nonsense.

There is a hack at vb.org you can install, a simply product installation, that will filter new members posts according to the words that you put in for it to filter. You need to check the moderation area frequently though because if you get alot of registrations everyday like I do, some new members will accidentally trip the filter. I believe SirAdrian is the member who has the hack.

Wow, I just came across a beautiful hack. It asks a question when you are registering. Admin can choose the question and the answer! Simple questions like 2+2.! Amazing!

98% of vB spam ISNT automated. thats the problem. There are places that pay people .01 cent a post or something.

That is why I like the hack that grabs posts with your specified keywords and puts the posts in moderation so you have to manually approve them. The post by BamaStangGuy has a link to the hack.

It has worked great for me, makes for about 5-6 posts per day on average that my members never see, and I have only had 2 legit posts by new members get caught by it (due to my own error)

I don't run a forum anymore, but has anyone tried changing the font to some obscure font for the CAPTCHA?

There is the option for slanting, changing color,font and size. Didn't try, I don't think it would work though.

I thought they were bots? If bots are getting passed CAPTCHA they are not reading it, they are told how to read certain fonts and styles. So I thought that maybe if you got a real obscure font that randomizes the position of each individual letter than maybe they won't be able to recognise it.

Just a train of thought I had

It's cut the cellphone spam done to zero.
I was getting 3-5 new post a day, not I see 2-3 post in moderation a week.

I am spending almost all of my time fighting the SPAM war. i have over 200 emils banned and they still come.

I'm using vS pam Scan, Spam Decimator, and Akismet Anti-Spam.

I am also evaluating NoSpam! - an alternative to CAPTCHA images and Prevent Spam.

I have set all my forums to manually approve all members. I think in the last 6 months, I have only had one person get through and post anything, but it was easy to clean up.
