Are social sites all about the member numbers?

I consider my site to be a social networking site of sorts but I don't get people to register. Anyone can post comments...

Am I missing out on something?

I only get email address details when someone posts an image link so that's limiting me building a DL but I think it would limit the amount of posts if I were to introduce an email verification...

Cheers, p.

I would have to know a little more about your site.. With forums I think the amount of posts and activity are most important, not member count... But it could be different with your kind of site.

If you have 1000 members who signed up once and never came back to the site, do you honestly think that it is better than 100 people who come regularly, post etc?

It is only a social networking site if you can communicate with other people, i.e create a "network" of friends. If you do not have to sign up, I don't think it can be a social networking site.

If you post your link we can be more helpful

Hello pondlife,

I agree with Moelman and Switch - I'd rather have a smaller number of active members than ten times more members who are less active. That is usually true of most forum sites and network sites. The high number might look good, but if they're not coming back regularly and letting others know about the site, is the high number really that good? I'd say it isn't.

Just my opinion!

Happy Holidays, everyone, and have a happy, safe, and prosperous 2007! :-)

Sincerely,

Joe Chengery III

Send out a mass mail, take advantage of the fact that you still have members who were once interested.

Why limit social networking site only to sorts ? This way users are limited to sorts, members don't need 100% sports, they need Music, Movie, Fun, etc... If you limit them to sports, they need to find another site for their other interests.
