Well, I have the domain messageboard.cc to start with, and it's probably

the simplest of simplest domains for a forum, and I have really no idea

where to start. I've tried webmaster forums which it is now, teen forums,

and tons of stuff but it doesn't seem to get the attention it needs. I was

told that a targeted forum would be nice... any ideas on what I could

change it to?

Maybe a service of free forums. Install a multiforum system (SMF, PHPBB or IPB) and make something like forumer.com

Or a forum directory which may be a little easier to set up as well as manage.

I like both ideas given so far.

You could do both, and really push it. Maybe even offer a skin on phpBB IPB and Vb for back links.

An Online business network would be nice to host as these groups are aggressive in posting in forums. But be warned that its quite competitive as well.
You can build on your network of webmasters as business networks are mostly composed of this kind of professionals.

Yes that's definitely true, but there is huge competition, it's hard to keep up with!

Only set up a forum about a topic you are passionate about! If you establish a forum about anything else, you will only lose the motivation needed to get it off the ground.

It seems as though this has already happened, what with you mentioning in your opening post that you have already changed the topic of your forum a couple of times.

Think about what really interests you. Think about how you can make your forum different to others with a similar subject matter. Then ask yourself whether you can commit to the huge amount of work and dedication needed to get a new community off the ground!

I'd sign up for a forum about forums.

Especially if it had a good list of places to post in for
real quality info....

With messageboard.cc I don't think you can really focus on any niche as it's just messageboard, but maybe you can have a forums that just focuses on messageboard discussions, like have different sub forums for each popular forums board on the web and then further sub forums like how to earn money from them, who to get them active with posts, how to modify scripts and things, etc.

Or you could just have a general discussion forums that is a large forums about most topics on the web, but that would be one large board, lol.

I tried doing a college one before and it was ridiculously hard. I wont ever be doing forum moderation again it's too much work :'(

Good point! We usually wouldn't mind putting extra hour or effort to explore more about what we are passionate about/interested, would we? Specially when you are going to spend so much time to build/manage it, you want it to be something you really like. If not, you have to learn to love/like it, which is sometimes quite difficult to do...

Be passionate about your forum first. Choose your greatest intrest and tackle it. These are the most successful forums ever!
