I recently ran a large contest on my forum at ChristianAvenue.org. It was very successful with over 3500 posts made by over 200 loyal members. However, after the contest ended (a day ago), there was almost no activity at all . Yes, there were a few posts here and there, but activity dropped down by almost 70% :censored:! So what should I do to bring activity back up and make sure it sticks?
Was about to say that.. keep a series of smaller contests going at all time. Doesn't have to be anything expencive for you, just a little something to reward them..
I got in contact with a Christian T-shirt company who is willing to sponsor one free t-shirt for free per week. Looks like I'm going to start a weekly contest afterall .
Sustain the interest by giving sporadic contests. Try to get advertisers to sponsor some prizes for you to ease out on the budget constraint of a contest.
It is a little worrying that your members only seem to post when they have a prize as an incentive. Although the advice given (to keep contests going) is OK for the short term, you really need to dig down and find out why people are only posting when there are prizes to win.
You know the best way to find this out? Ask them! Make a post on your forum asking members why they think activity has died down after the contest. Ask them if there are new categories they want to see discussed, or new site features they would like to see. Get them more involved and it is likely they will be more willing to post without needing incentives.
