I have found a forum that I am interested in buying. Its fairly small (a little over 100 members). The domain shows an age of 4 years but the site has been up for 2. Its built around a product that I have some knowledge about. Despite the small number of users, the board is fairly active. Page rank is only 1.

Just looking at it, I see some things that could be changed right away that I believe would make a big difference and improve the value of the board. I think the forum has value, because I know how hard it is to find information for this particular subject.

However, what is the best way to go about valuing a forum? Any tips you guys have would be appreciated.

Well, you need to consider the value of the domain alone, any revenue the site generates, the value of the content and database (membership and posts), and the site itself (design, loyalty, etc). I would think a revenue multiple somewhere between 10-30 months is a realistic expectation. If the site has bo revenue, then you will need to determine what you feel it is worth. I would think anywhere from $500 - $5,000 from what you have said.

I would say more like $200 - $3,000, but I have never really sold a site. How active is the forums when you look at it. How many posts, threads and active users does it have? Also when you look at it how many users are currently online, don't forget that when a user is only sometimes it may actually be a search engine robot and not a real visitor.
