the sites really have to get a ton of traffic to really be able to make any decent money. Plus unless you have a unique idea or way to ahve the site setup... why would people want to come to your site instead of one of the 1000's already out there... Not trying to discourage you just asking whay makes your site/idea of a site stand out?

Here is a link to EF's own Affiliate Marketing forum. I know of several members here that do $xx,xxx monthly with Azoogle.

I don't recommend starting a games/arcade site. You are not going to make any money.

Must admit that getting traffic to a gaming site is normally a little easier than a lot of other sites as more people are likely to want to play games rather than wanting to read about widgets. But then when it comes to monetizing them for good cash, that is normally a lot harder than quite a few other sites.

It is definitely MUCH harder to make a decent chunk of change with games sites these days. You would definitely have to come with a creative angle or some really hot custom games.

Tough niche with stiff competition. IMO marketing your website start from your content. Providing useful and relevant content in your niche is very crucial. Here are my top 5 picks for promoting your site once it is finished:

1. Great content - be it information, service, products... providing relevance and usefulness gives you higher chances of making a visitor into a customer
2. Forum and blog posting on relevant niche - you participate constructively and learn new things while promoting your site via signature.
3. Pay-Per-Click - done properly, best at getting target traffic faster on a direct marketing approach to your potential clients.
4. Targeted Link backs - another premium way of getting the right traffic.
5. Article marketing - useful and relevant articles to your niche is a nice way of link baiting. A game review would fall under this.
6. Blogging - this is a nice way to enhance interaction with your audience and a great means also for your SEO.

Once you have decent targetted traffic, you could monetize it through a number of ways - banners, selling links, affiliate products (games), site sponsorship, etc..

Hope that helps!

I agree. Just look at Youtube, Yahoo, Google, etc. They are successful sites because they are good, but if they didn't do the marketing then no matter how good they were, they would not be as big as they are today.
