I've always wondered how a forum that is not even 6 months old is instantly populated with hundreds of posts and thousands of replies. I assume there is forum software that does this?

I think some forums import posts from Yahoo answers and usenet groups, stuff like that. I believe some kind of script runs this, I don't think its built in to any software.

also sometimes a new forum might be created and a older database from a existing forum is imported...

They use post importers - or an existing forum database.

They could also be buying other forums and merging the contents.

After 6 months? I own a forum that had close to 1million posts after 6 months naturally...

What forum is that? Did you have a launch team or anything?

I know you can subscribe to paid postings. Basically you pay a company that pays someone to post on your forum to make it look active. You can do this until you get enough users to have to forum run by itself.
