Many people use facebook and it is an accesible website.... for everyone. Stalkers add people they don't know, piedifields add children and look at their pictures. Now companies our looking at our facebooks to judge whether we should have a job or not. With our details on we become accesible, children are under threat from strangers adding them and looking at things that they only want their friends to see.
Is facebook becoming Big Brother?
Facebook is the current fad, just like many things have been before it. I think people far overstate the long term influence of anything just because it is popular and hot right now. amazing how things can change. Remember AOL. Remember Napstar when it was first out, etc etc etc etc. the list is endless.
facebook is big business, big business doesn't care about social welfare issues most of the time, their focus is on money. They make it incredibly easy to track people, but you also have the option to a. Not use it b. Not keep a public profile.
I have a hard time with these types of worries over the use of social networking sites.
You make your personal information public then worry about people looking at it
Exactly!!! I never could figure out that one either.
People need to learn to use common-sense. I also have no problems monitoring what my kids do on the internet, regardless of whether they like it or not.

Facebook is a threat, but things get even worse!! Did you know there are these things called sharks that swim around in the ocean, eating animals that are sometimes larger than us? We're a public society, that means sharks can learn to walk on dry land, and eat all of us humans. Electricity is a major part of everybody's life - we could easily be shocked to death sitting at the keyboard. And what if your internal combustion engine were to explode while you drove it?
facebook certainly isn't a threat to my life, or my family.. I don't know about yours

Well there are always two sides to it. And what you just mentioned are the bad parts of it. Not just Facebook might I add but on other social networking sites as well. It's your responsibility to create an honest and safe profile online for all the world to see.
This is one of the reasons people can set their profile to PRIVATE. And invite only their friends to view their information. I don't know why it's such a big deal, or they're just too computer illiterate to configure the privacy settings.
Although it's not the reason I deactivated my account, I just find the tool for the most part, useless. The design doesn't strike me as anything special either (aka it's horrible).

Id have to agree with jamestl2. The platform is horrible, and many people i know have also deactivated their accounts. There is just too much clutter since the introduction of open development. You of course can choose not to run or install these services, but i cant stand getting 40 invites to stupid "chuck norris quote" and "LOLCAT" applications everytime i sign on on.
I'm not sure if facebook does it, but a lot of these social sites will sell your personal info to advertisers. You should fear the corporations with your info, this is more of a threat to your privacy.
social Networking sites helps to meet the old friends or new ones and many thing s...
But some people using the same thing for different purpose ...We cant show the mistake is from Facebook side ...We need to think when we accept unknown person as our friend so mistake is our side

Facebook seems safe, but those applications are not. ''They have access to almost all user information'' and thats why I mostly keep my user information incorrect! Most applications trick users into downloading or accepting adware.
The 'secret crush' widget that came out in Jan tricked users into installing Zango.
This way I can keep in touch with old friend and not have to worry about my details being stolen or being searched.
