Yeah i am choosing a forum for my clients this year and i was wondering.. what do you think of tha free ones like phpbb... is it as secure that invision board or vbbulletin?

if u have sources to articles i'd appreciate too :P

MyBB - http://www.mybboard.net/ -In my view it's the most innovative in it's coding, it's fast and easily modifiable (Their are loads of plugins which can be installed with like 1-click). It also has quite a good coding team keeping it secure

I totally agree with Mike, MyBB is deffinatly the best free forum, but have to say if the forum justifies the license VB is a very good option.

You can try SMF (simplemachines.org) I have used it on my client's site with custom theme.

phpBB is still one of the better forum management scripts. Many hosting companies directly offer phpBB as part of hosting plans with the ability of the Control Panel installing it for your website.

I like AEF (Advanced Electron Forum), it has a nice look to it, I had it on one of my websites for awhile and the admin panel is nice.

My self i love vbulletin but ive not tried MyBB so i have to say best free forum ive used so far is phpBB simply because its easy to use although my friends find it hard to modify the style on it but they get it done eventually.

I like when spam bots bring back a thread that is 2 years old

VB rules, i tried them all.

VB works pretty well on our forums, its worth using it

Good timing for a resurrection, though... what about the new XenForo? It's supposed to be a vB killer. Haven't used it myself yet, though, so I can't say from experience, but there's a lot of buzz about it.
