I recently launched a webmaster forum http://webmasterforums.net46.net

So far I have promoted it using forum signiture links and social bookmarking sites like Digg and StumbleUopn.

Can anyone suggest any other ways I could promote my forum?

Make it as lively as possible first. Invite friends and relatives to post. Tha would be a big plus to entice your visitors to join.

Is paid posting a good idea for new forums? WIll it make guests more likely to join because of a higher post count?

it has an error, but try getting friends to sign up, then make your site unique with something like posting articles on it, or maybe unique themes. That kinda thing attracts users

Its also good to pay some people to make some interesting posts. The forum need to be lively place as much as possible. It takes time to make the ball roling. When you get the ball roling then it never stops(sometimes).

if the forum is dead, its hard for ppl to come back and be a part of it. If u have the cash, I think paid posting to keep it active is a good idea. then, buy some targeted traffic. I wouldnt buy traffic unless u start having some consistency.

You could use safelists to send out mailers.

Promote it by writing in a blog.

or you can advertise on various famous forums using paid promotion techniques.
