I would say forums are the best, in forums there are common points and topics where every member could participate to. Unlike the other social networking sites out in the web.

Really depends on what you wish to use a social networking platform for.

There are some places online where you can discuss occult-related material, there are some places in which you cannot, but can discuss politics- and there some places where you can discuss both in the same topic, etc.

I prefer forums coz it is the best way to socialize and give and take information.

Yeah right! As they always said forum is the best online community. Simply because, you are gaining knowledge and instant backlinks here. Next to me is, social networks since you can share what you want and interact with your real friends. Like facebook.

Bookmarking sites like reddit, digg, delicious

Blogs like the Icanhascheezburger network, or Break or Gawker

Knowledge stores like Yahoo Answers, Fluther.com, Amazon Askville and Answerbag each have their own personality

BBS'es like 4chan (hey it does have about 400 million monthly pageviews and produces most of your lols)

Dating sites, social networks, etc..
