Seems that many people people start up dating sites and put alot of effort into design and functions. But it is such a shame that so many of these great sites never get known.

OK, there are around 3000 free internet directories but there are less than 200 free dating sites. There are several hundred thousand blogs in the Internet. Besides there wasn't much more efforts to put my dating site online at http://www.toppicturedating.com, for my blog I have put much more efforts in. If I would have some few hundred dollars to invest, I would have run it on Social Engine script rather than a-dater.

jetpilot, thats because the keywords pay so high. take a look at how many insurance sites are out there - too many. thats because the CPC pays around $15+, dating sites are similar

There are lots of dating sites that are constantly arising in the web. This makes it hard for some new and young dating sites to cope up with the other popular sites.

I see people trying to start dating sites with forum solutions like vBulletin... and I wonder how (if) they will ever take off. I don't think it would be easy, but it's interesting to watch.

ya that is something disappointing for all those dating site owners
it is all because of the content and the advertising methods they would engage themselves into
it has to have some publicity, interesting aspect which will attract people to get into it also counts

True as someone said earlier, the big dating sites will be spending thousands of pounds a month on advertising, very hard to compete with those sites !

They are already miles and miles ahead of the rest of us, because their campaigns are allowing them to do more than use their advertisements to gain new members/customers, increase site value, etc.

They are also using it as a means to get customers familiar with their name, and accelerate their brand.

nothing is impossible however, but these are difficulties/obstacles to keep in mind.

I run a dating site. You still have to do the normal marketing efforts that most sites do. However, I think word of mouth with dating sites is very important. You constantly have to stay engaged with your customers so they spread the word about your site.

I seen one dating site when they were first started and i believe it was 9 months later they had over 30,000 members, websites do not always need money to build a reputation, sometimes dating sites get lucky or they find a niche that no one has thought about or they work hard at promoting it with a $0 budget.
