Hey guys, just wanted to ask a question, I have just recently setup a new webmaster forum, http://forum.jgblogging.com I do have a few members and over 50 posts, it is only 1 week old. I just wondered how I would go about getting more members.

Well, basically you do a post on lots of other forums, saying "New Forum - how do I get members?" (You've already done that.)

Then people like me follow your link and look at the new forum. 8 members and 57 posts. These visitors will join your forum if it looks like you have got original ideas and great material.

Mind you, there are some people who will join anything. Then you will have lots of rubbish posts.

Then you can ask on other forums for moderators. There are plenty of people who will join anything if they get a badge.

Then the moderators will spend hours doing posts, just so they can show off their badge on their posts.

Voila! You will have an active forum!

Suggest you read up on the application of the 90 9 1 theory of forum participation. Ignore the actual numbers, it the principle that matters and how you apply that pronciple.

As you have started a webmaster forum, you need to do one of two things:
1) Give up now before you waste to much time competing in a very competitive market
2) Offer something that the zillion other webmaster forums do not offer - ie something unique.

Check the extent of the competition here:

Thanks both of you for you answers, I am thinking about adding a few categories for non webmasters to still use my forum.
What do you think?

Don't post junk on your forum, less posts doesn't matter if they are more valuable than thousands of useless posts, offer some really quality content.

I have added a Forum shop to my forum, I have allowed the members to purchase things such as Reputation increase, stuff like that, but i have allowed them to purchase advertising for credits, i thought this would be great for webmasters as they are always looking for advertising, and seeming they dont have to pay all they do is post and earn credits.

What do you guys think?
