I great way to engage your members which i have found to work very well on my forum, is to give your members a forum shop, everytime they post or make a new thread or refer a member they get a few points or credits which can be used in your forum shop, have a look at the sort of things i offer in my forum shop

It gives your members an incentive to carry on posting and stay active among your forum!

In case any of you wonder how i add the forum shop, I use SMF as my forum platform, and I use the mod SMF shop, its great, I did have to do a manual install but its worth it.

Any of you used a forum shop and had success with it?

Do one for 5000 credits, An Admin / Moderator spot.

That may help get people posting, and if they post enough for 5000 credits then they should probably have some power anyway.

I too use a forum shop/credit system. vBplaza defenitly has alot of features that do keep my members active.

Just a quick update on my forums shop.

If you do have a shop, a great way to enage your members, and also get more members to your forum is running a limited time offer. I will give you and example, which It is actually running at my forum.

I have just setup a limited time offer at my web-master forum, I am giving every member who joins my forum a FREE 25 credits, but only for 48 hours is this offer available.

By doing this it will get members to join and it also could make your origanal members tell their friends about it, "Quick come and join this forum, a FREE 25 credits is given" It really is a great thing to do, even if you only run it once a month.

With their credits they can get more random credits? What if they get more than they actually had and now increase their reputation which they "didnt" earn.

Yeah I did think about that... the solution i came up with is it cost them 75 credits to purchase this.

When they use the item they can win anywhere from -100 to +100 credits.
They do have a chance of loosing credits..

What do you think about that solution?

Great idea would like to use it in my forum also, but do you think there is a mod for phpBB that will take care of that functionality?
