I've been looking around for a UK-based Web Industry Organisation - and to be honest I'm disappointed.

I'm not looking for a "Join free and be part of our directory of members" type organisation - but something like the ISPA where membership actually means something.

Have I missed something?

How many Web Designers, Graphic Designers, Web Developers, DBAs, Art Directors, Webmasters, SEO consultants etc... are out there who would join such an organisation? Why isn't there one?

What are the objectives of this Organization? Before I will join an organization, I need to know first the purpose of the org.

Thanks for your reply.

I wasn't actually talking about starting such an organisation, but rather inquiring as to whether one exists as I haven't been able to find one.

If I was to start one, I imagine it's purpose would be to Further the Interests of the Web Development Industry, to provide a platform for networking and promoting best-practices across the industry, to provide a unified voice in the international community to represent Web Developers & Designers in the UK/Ireland, to perhaps develop accreditation schemes or become involved in existing certification and training schemes, to lobby government and international organisations where necessary on behalf of the industry, to advise the education sector on the real-world workings of the industry and how best to develop the talent of the future, and of course to offer member benefits such as discounts and rewards.

Such an association would definately be worth joining from my point of view if there was one - but as I can see right now there isn't.

Maybe we should come together as an industry and form one?

There have been many come and go over the years, eg http://www.ukwda.org/ has been around for years but is now neglected collecting dust.

The idea has been tried many times but never seemed to work. I don't know whether a new site would generate any interest?

Well I would like to see just how many people would be interested in forming this organisation.

I've launched a site for people to register their interest - so please, if you think this is something you would like to be a part of, take two minutes to register.

I've setup the site with my own ideas at present, but nobody ever formed an association by themselves - so this is merely the foundation - it is free to be pushed, pulled and battered into what I would like to be an organisation for the web industry - run by the web industry.

If anyone would initiate then It can be possible.
