According to news from Search Engine Land, the venerable StumbleUpon has now become a larger social media referrer than either Facebook or Twitter. StumbleUpon with a 43 percent share of social media referrals, while Facebook has 38 percent according to StatCounter.

I agree with this since I've seen my site get stumbled and watched the hits go through the roof. On the down side though, StumbleUpon tends to have more technically inclined users than facebook. That sounds good but from what I've seen at least half the hits coming from StumbleUpon use ad blockers, the ones that do see the ads generally don't click anything since they're more likely to hit the stumble button and go to the next page. So although you're getting good traffic, you're not making cash from advertisers. I'll take 100k hits from facebook over SU any day.

I also have a account with Stumbleupon and I have seen some good traffic results generated at my awstats due to stumble upon bookmarking.

Well said. It's like Digg - they are very technical oriented - and if your trying to sell antiques - people from Digg won't show any interest. I'll take the traffic from FB as well.

Shirlyn, do you just do normal bookmarking? Or do you use their paid ads service? I don't quite know how to use sites like StumbleUpon or facebook to promote my site. I've read some articles online, but most of them just said things like "be social"... I would really appreciate if you have some tips to share :-)

social sites are so many , not more than facebook and twitter , you need find where your potential customer are .

Great news Stumble Upon has always been my favorite.
I got thousands of impressions when a particular post of my blog hit the first page of technology section.
The reason for this could so be Digg losing traffic in big amounts.
If you want bulk traffic then StumbleUpon is the best.

There was once my site got stumbled upon and my traffic hike to 5k on that day itself. Maybe you can try those CPM ads, those tht are not so common, so that their script couldnt recognize it and block it.

Stumbleupon is a nice social network, and we can get huge amount of traffic from there also.
