Facebook is expected to offer company stock to the general public starting next year.

If you had the opportunity to grab some shares, would you take it, knowing that Facebook will probably never be more popular than it is right now?

Why pay for over inflated shares for a company that has pretty much peaked?

You would be better off putting the money into smaller startups with good ideas.
You get better value for money and your return could be huge.

Facebook would require a large amount of capital to only gain a small amount.

It seems pointless to me.

I agree with Lynxus, if they had opened up shares at the beginning when they expanded to the general public, one might be doing pretty good financially now. But who knew Facebook would take off in such a big way....

I think that Google will work harder to get into the social media aspect of the web which will put a lot of pressure on facebook. I can't see either how facebook is worth the billions that it is claimed to be worth. I would have snapped up stock with them if they had offered it several years ago though.

Why buy stocks in a site/company that is going downhill?

I would snap up some shares just to test the waters. But yup its already reached its peak so I won't be too optimistic on gaining much from it.

I think Facebook are clearly doing this to make money on a site that has reached it's peak and is facing a downhill trend in the coming years.

I wouldn't invest in a product that's passing it's peak.

I'm sure FB will be overtaken by the next service within a year or two. I have plenty of thoughts on what form this might take, some kind of universal cloud system seems the most likely to me.
