They help, I believe, Many people are now using social networks and microblogging sites, soo the presence at the networks is the must for promotion.

When you are promoting a business you need to be there where people are spending most of their time like Facebook and Twitter.You can use it as a virtual "word of mouth" writing about your site and building a following,thus, bringing in traffic.Google is also indexing Facebook/Twitter page updates which will help in SERP .

I believe that Facebook is a good way to promote any businesses you have online. You can promote it to your friends and a lot of people could see it. Twitter can also be a good way to promote you business but Facebook is way more useful because you can create a page and endorse it to every one.
