It's definitely a challenge to get the right balance.
GMail was invite only for several months. Then again, you don't need critical mass with email like you do with a social network.
I'd say give 'em a little time, plus hasn't even been out a month yet.

I agree. I wasn't trying to criticize them at all. I do think they've handled the rollout well so far. They do have to keep letting new people in, since an empty network isn't very useful, but I do get wanting to roll out slowly.
I finally joined last night and added you to a circle. I have 3 whole connections at the moment. I didn't have time last night to dig too deep, but hopefully will have something of a real network later in the week.

Looks like Google+ managed to pull in 20 million users in just 3 weeks.
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000...032418286.html
Not bad for something that's not quite ready yet...
Rumor has it, they are going fully public on July 31.
time to reach 10 million users compared

Their growth has been pretty amazing. I haven't used it a lot yet, but I'm slowly getting in there and adding people to circles and setting up sparks topics. As slow as it is, it's still much more time than I've spent on Facebook in the last couple of years.
As far as that graph is concerned the comparison probably isn't entirely fair. For many of those first 852 days Facebook was more limited in who could join than Google is now and by being 2nd people know what to expect from Google+ I don't think many had a clue what Twitter was for awhile.
Google+ does have an advantage by being late to the party. They don't need to explain what the site is all about. Still impressive growth though and one reason I think Google+ is going to remain a player for quite some time.

Also, since about half the total population of people connected to the internet visit google on a daily basis, they have a huge advantage when they decide to advertise the service.

True. The latest reports from the weekend suggest that Google+ now has about 20,000 users and is till growing pretty fast, though not quite as fast. New signups seem to have slowed. However that's only in comparison to how fast they had been signing up. I think we'll have to see where they are in a few months to really get a picture of their early growth.
Little by little I'm using Google+ more. I'm hardly a frequent user of social sites and can't say I'm any different with Google+ I can say that since I log in and do something I'm already using it more than Facebook.

Funny Shey. I've never been a fan of Facebook. It's always seemed more difficult to do what I want than it should be. The easier thing has been to not bother with it. I have a profile, but if I check it once a month that's a lot.
Google+ is making it easier for me to do the same things so I'm enjoying it more and have been checking in daily. Maybe I spend 15-30 minutes there at the end of the day. Not a lot, but far more than Facebook.
Right now it's still on the empty side. The masses aren't present and even those who are present it's still mainly a very small group of people I follow posting anything. Some of that is just who I follow of course and it's not far off from the situation at other social networks when they first began.
Google+ is off to a pretty good start. I think it's gained enough momentum already to be here for a little while. We'll have to see where they are in a year. Just a niche network for some already adopters or with signs it's attracting the masses.

I was reading that Facebook is the social network for extroverts & Google+ is the social network for introverts. Makes a lot of sense.
Facebook is for those who want to tell everyone what they're doing - extroverts.
Google+ is for those who want to speak to only a few at a time - introverts.

2011 is the year Facebook killed Google Plus. Or perhaps it's still too early to tell. After all, Google Plus is not even a year old.

It is untimely to say that G+ was dead, the way people accepted it on its trial stage and not yet released publicly I doubt; maybe it is just making its way on the top. LOL…remember what happened on friendster before FB.^^

Shey it's hard to say 2011 was the year Facebook killed Google+ since Google+ didn't exist until midway through 2011. You have to give Google+ some time to develop and grow.
We can't really know what Google+ will become for a few years. So far it's grown faster than any social network that's come before it. A lot of that probably has to do with more people being aware of social networking in general.
Google is certainly putting the company behind Google+ They're integrating it with all their other products. It's even begun to appear in marketing and ads. A recent Verizon commercial for the Samsung Galaxy 2 phone features the circles of Google+
For the most part it's still the usual early adopters (marketers and the tech savvy) who are there, but the celebrities have started to show up, which will likely lead to more mass adoption. Last night while watching Anderson Cooper on CNN I noticed that in addition to his Facebook profile and Twitter profile he also mentioned to follow him at Google+
It's still way too early to declare Google+ a success of failure. And you can't really compare it to Facebook (in terms of success) yet. Facebook has a few years head start and of course is going to be the larger network right now.

You do realise that is NOT what it is there for.
Mind you, of course, if you are more than happy to inform Google first hand that you drop links at social media sites for various sites, who am I to warn you about it???

Google+ does not have a hope in hell.
If you want to check up on your friends you dont want to have to go to three or four networks to Find them!
Facebook has them all, so they should give up.
Google are not very good at marketing anything.

Google+ makes me spin in circles...get it...CIRCLES. OK, that was stupid. Anyway, only time will tell. Google does have a way of crushing it's targets. Google is like the ancient Romans. They take ideas from the Greeks and make them their own. The only difference is (in relation to sculpture), they DON'T add a fig leaf for privacy, because there is NO privacy.
