ok here goes....

What do members think about having a forum for those who need a place to start? Beginners could then post to a forum with their ideas and questions in a place thats ok to get back to basics (may need an interpreter!). May start a new breed of webmasters!!!! I know there are enough talented people here more than willing to help anyone that needs a hand. After all...we all have to start somewhere!
Can someone show me the starting line?
Take care

great suggestion Deb, I agree with you and I second this motion, WT does need a forum for beginners to start, but isnt that what Shoot the Breeze was made for?

Well if it was or wasnt, we do need a forum were beginning webmasters can go back to the basics and ask all the questions they need and seek help, then again, after thinking about this, isnt this why webmaster-talk was made? I think webmaster-talk really has no targeted audience, I think webmaster-talk was made for both beginners and experienced, after all this is a place to learn and become a better webmaster.

Your idea sounds great, but I think all of the forums here are beginner as well as advanced webmasters forum.

Good suggestion Deb. (I would have never guessed that someone would suggest that, hehehehe!)

It might be the place for someone to say "Hi, this is my first post". But it's not one dedicated to beginning webmasters. It says: "Talk about what's on your mind! For topics unrelated to our other forums. Are you new? Introduce yourself! You may also use this forum for test posts."

Webmaster-Talk is targeted at Webmasters, but not at one specific level of experience. And we all might do well if we had a forum for the beginning level.

What suggestions do you (anybody) have for subforums under a new forum for beginning level webmasters?

Maybe something like this?
  • Basic HTML
  • Common abbreviations
  • Using editors or site builders
  • What is your site about?
  • Personal or business
  • etc
And there would need to be some special rules. For example, a newbie does want to ask a question about space requirements and every host plaster the replies with ads. So I would suggest that no ads whatsoever be allowed there. But that's just me.

Thoughts?

Dave

i think it would be a nice addition to the site - it will certainly benefit our younger and less experienced webmasters

Hi all
It was a shock suggestion wasn't it Dave?
I agree with no advertising in the forum as being inundated with ads can be confusing also. It would be nice if advice given wasn't biased in anyway by ones personal agenda.
Did that make sense???
Take care

Yeah, a big shocker, hehe.

I think it makes perfect sense about not having ads in there. I don't like to ask for help and someone sends me an ad in return. I can find the ads doing a search.

I think the mods for the beginner forum could delete any ad that comes along, or rather, move them to the SPAM can!

What about sub-forums? Ideas?

Dave
