Just curious, and no offense, but since I've been a member here, there's never been any themes to wmt forum itself (where's the creativity for the Holidays guys?) Do you plan on doing something for the new year? Maybe Christmas? I never noticed any theme for the Holidays around here...Maybe this should be considered? Kind of dreary without the sense of the holiday spirit around here...Especially since it has lot's of members, and with all the members here, I'm sure making the site 'Light-Up' for the Holidays might look good and get appreciated alot more. Even if you guys don't have the time to actually 'create' the design, there's so many members here with really great graphic design skills, who I'm sure wouldn't mind doing something...
Just a thought...

It is a great thought Brian and I agree with you, a little holiday sparkle is exciting. One never knows what to expect when doing a Google search, whoever it is, they sure are very creative and talented when it comes to incorporating graphics within those Google letters. Just outstanding! My favorite was this past November on election day in the US where they had polling booths within those letters with a curtain covering the entrance to the booths. They have had other graphics within those letters for other events, sometimes I don't really know what the event is, but that's all right, I appreciate the creativity and talent anyways, such fun!

Interesting idea. I think it's up to Tim or Lee to make the call. I'm guessing no one associated with the site will have the time to create a design, but you're right that we have more than enough great designers as members.
I'll start a thread in the staff forum to see if it gets the attention of those who would need to make the decision.

^ I assume that was to no avalible being as its 5 days to xmas and nothings lit up
I have to admit this is one thing which really bugs me about this forum, the people who are making the money from us using this forum are never seen and can barely be called members of the community! Grr..
In my view if you own and run a foruma and make money off it the least you can do is show your face and take part!!!

I did start a thread in the staff forum and everyone who'd checked in thinks the idea is a good one. Still haven't heard from those who could actually say yes and make it happen.
One thing I realized after posting is that even with a design someone still has to code the theme. That might be the kind of thing that would have kept this from happening.
Yeah it's probably a little late for this year, but maybe it's still something we can get going in the future.

Well at least you tried Vangogh, and that's about all you can do. For an elaborate graphic design plus the coding would take time, I can well understand that. But would it take that much time to put a sprig of holly or jingle bells above the Webmaster-Talk on the left side?

thats what i was thinking, all someone would have to do is make the logo/top banner a little xmassy copy the current theme change logos and then its just a simple change theme

If it were up to me we'd do it, but unfortunately it's not my decision to make. I would think temporarily replacing the logo with a holiday themed logo wouldn't be too difficult. In fact we wouldn't even have to change a line of code. Just rename the current logo temporarily and upload the new one.
It doesn't look like we'll have anything this year, but hopefully we can get something going for next year or even some of the holidays in between.

Sorry I wasn't able to make it happen this year. If it means anything all of the moderators who have commented like the idea and we're trying to think of simple ways to pull this off for future holidays so once the powers that be do notice maybe we will start to celebrate the holidays better.

Yeah... recently I've been developing a little greasemonkey script that spices up the look of webmaster-talk. However, I'm stuck on one loophole, which is making me wonder if it's really a good use of my time to code it. Would you like something this like that?

hey steve,
I know this is an old thread, but all that is really required is a php script to rotate the grapics, and create one graphic for each of the holidays, and after 1 complete year, change up the images per holiday...I remember one script being called banners pro which I was looking for recently but the company went oob. Too bad, it was cool, and haven't seen anything like it since. but there's no need to do any of that 'greasemonkey stuff' this was the scripts site: http://www.freshone.net/cgi_perl/ad_...nners_pro.html

I still like the idea. The thing is I don't have the ability to do it. It's something Tim or Lee will need to do. Do you mind sending either or both a PM? I'll do the same.

It took us long enough, but we're putting the idea in motion. We've decided to start a contest to let members design a new holiday logo for Thanksgiving.
Here's the contest thread. You can read the details there.
We're starting with Thanksgiving, but we're planning on running more contests for holidays around the year. Feel free to suggest some holidays that would lend themselves to interesting logos.
