hi , I never seem to be able to find posts that i have done - i usually save them to favorites, I know its a thicko question - but is there a way to see threads i have posted on or get alerted by email when there is a response?
I can never find a search facility also so I have to go though the forums one by one till i find my mail.

click your username and use the
"Find all posts by ..." and "Find all threads by ... "

to get alerted use the "Subscribe to this thread" on the reply box and / or go to your control panel and in "Edit Options" set the "Default Thread Subscription Model" to "Instant email notification"
