It might help to decrease spam if users were required a certain number of posts before being able to posts links, or enable their signature or something. And turn off post-count in the Community Talk forums (if you haven't already). Of course the requirement would probably need to be in the 20s (or higher) for it to really work. If ti works at all :/

Just an idea, but maybe it's been tried before?

I'm not sure if this has been implemented or discussed in the past.

I'm thinking the problem with that is people would be inclined to post nonsense until they reach x number of posts. Also, I'm not sure the benefits resulting from not allowing users to post links would outweigh the inconvenience to legitimate users.

Right now it is fairly easy to spot the people who are just here to drop links. If someone has 1 post and that post is an advertisement or some kind of spam it's probably safe to assume they are just here to spam.

Yeah, I see you point. Although, nonsense posts = ban anyway, right?

Was just a thought really; tired of seeing all the irrelevant or pointless posts.

Thanks for the response, Matt

The one sure way to stop the irrelevant, useless and repetive posts is to turn signatures OFF completely, not have an arbitary switch on post count BUT require the signature or "homepage" link to be turned on by the forum mods when the member has proven themselves.
