I was made aware of the new sig link rules today.

I had an affiliate link in my signature. It was a link for an ad network that i use, and am very excited about.

Did I want people to sign up under me? Absolutely! Do I think people on this forum would be interested in this information? Absolutely!!! Do I directly promote this network? NO! My last couple posts have been about how I'm moving more towards adsense.

So how are affiliate links in sig bad for this forum?

I've only posted when I have a genuine question, or something of clear value to add to a thread. If I can help, I help, if not, I shut up! I haven't posted any garbage!

Given, I've only been a member here for over a month. I've reported about a dozen spam/BS messages. About 60% were spammers just inserting a link into the post, the other 40% was nonsense post count padding for peoples PERSONAL websites, not ONE was an affiliate sig!

I'm not trying to arm twist you into going back to the previous sig link policy, this is your forum and you can do with it what you want.

But please explain to me; how were affiliate sig links hurting this forum.

We have always has rules against affiliate link dropping, whether it's in a sig line or not. These tend to be 99% junk, so they are not allowed.

Isn't it true that affiliate links used to be allowed in your signature?

My affiliate sig link was not junk.

I may be a newbie, but I do know a little bit about junk.

What do I think is junk? AMAZON!!! And they advertised on this forum for quite awhile.

And I think they charge a 2% fee just to pay you--JUNK!!!
My sig link was an honest (and better) alternative.
Let's try to stick to the facts here.

You can complain all you want, don't expect the administration here to change the rules on them anytime soon.

As a matter of fact, most webmaster forums don't allow affiliate/referral links anywhere.

I wasn't trying to complain, I just had a question and I thought the suggestion and feedback forum would be best place to ask it.

I also don't expect the new admins to change anything.

I've only been here for about a month and a half, and I was not aware that this forum was getting alot of affiliate/referral spam.

But if that's the case then it's a valid reason, and the answer I was looking for.
