Okay, after being vaporized I lost all my posts and threads (About 25) now I'm trying to PM someone who PM'd me about my website for sale. (since the websites for sale area is now Post only) I try to pm and it says that I must have 5 posts to PM, well I have 5, this one will be 6 we'll see if I can PM now. Not sure what happened to the database that casued me to get vaporized but what a pain!! Wwaaaaaaaa! Yes I'm whinning!!!!

Oh, I thought you were spamming to get your post count up and was getting ready to ..... nevermind. Anyway....
The database does its many miracles about once an hour, so it may take about an hour or so after your fifth post before it's updated and you can PM. It will come shortly.
Dave
P.S. You can use the search feature of WT and find the answer to a lot of questions.

I've just been very nice and made our update scripts run every 15 minutes So now you'll only have a max of 15 minutes to wait

Private Messages
You must make at least 5 posts before you may create new messages, or reply to any messages you receive. This is to reduce the amount of PM spam.
User statuses are updated every 15 minutes, so once you gain your 5 posts you will have to wait a max of 15 minutes. (Specifically, the updates are run on the 0, 15, 30 and 45 minute mark of every hour).

Naw. There are 200 users online and only one of those pageloads will actually run the script. It won't be noticeable
Actually, we should just get the scripts to run on a real cron job... (Instead of the "virtual" cron jobs we use now, emulated with PHP.)

would it be difficult for the check to be done on post submission?
i mean when a user logs in and it is still under 5 posts it should monitor posts, and when he gets over 5 posts it should open PM and stop monitoring his posts?
is that a good or bad ideea?

It's a good idea I'm planning to do that, but not until we upgrade to the next release of vBulletin

It's in Release Candidate 2 right now. I think the next release will be gold since there are no huge bugs.
After gold is released, we'll upgrade There is no ETA, though I think the next release (be it gold or another RC) will be available within the next week. Just an estimate of course I don't know what the devs are working on

I think it should not be a 5 post min. If someone steps out of line with a pm just ban em. I have been interested in a few sites for sale but this no reply and 5 post min. sucks.

So you just posted a bunch of times containing nothing but numbers. What a sign of intelligence. I don't lose my temper often, but that is a sign of real ignorance.

jstme ... WT strives to offer it's regular members confort ... if some people were to suffer for that for 5 posts ... i don't think it matters.
takeing into consideration of course that 5 posts is something i do in 3 minutes (takeing into considertaion the 1 post per 30 seconds rule) and yet i don't spam.
if you'll look around there are a lot of threads and posts that EVERYONE could feel free to reply to.
just count the polls you have in the right bar ... they all count ... vote in all and voila! 5 posts.
so ... see? vewy vewy vewy little work can bring you PM privileges ... and that without disturbing anyone with one-digit posts.

I found this site while searching for website for sale. One interested me but I could not contact them, hence the 1 digit posts, I just wonder how often people are missing sales because of this.

just lookm higher in this thread for the ones with bolded username [administrators] or italics usernames [moderators] ....
the is also a members section where you can see them ... usually the ones on the first page if you sort by posts and decreasing ... or easier ... it sais administrator or moderator under the avatar in most of their cases
also ...regarding your previos two posts here ... there is a search function and a suggestions forum ... you could have used both of those rather than go ahead and do 1 digit posts all over ... your choice was rude. please think of all the other members before you take any other decisions like that.
about the post count ... usually the "fun" forums are not counted towards the post count.

I've been watching this thread for awhile and decided I had to finally chip in my two cents when I saw another new member post 5 spam posts just to be able to pm some one today.
It is not difficult to come up with 5 posts.
If someone is interested in a site for sale and doesn't have 5 posts to PM - wouldn't it be much more respectful and just as easy to post a reply on that thread asking the selling party to PM the interested party?

KML1970, I agree totally with you. One thing though - the websites for sale forum is actually a "post only" forum, so doesn't allow replies

I prefer building my own sites to buying one that somebody else had all the fun with so I haven't actually been in the sites for sale, so I didn't know it was post only.
Okay - that wouldn't work - a person could put it in their "intro" post that they are interested in hearing from the person that posted a particular site for sale, look around for a while, make a few posts of substance in threads that interst them, then if they don't get a response from the person that posted the site they are interested in, they would have the necessary 5 posts without spamming. It would only take a minimum of patience.
P.S. Harvey - either you are following me today or we are in the same mind set - it seems we have posted consecutively in quite a few threads this morning
