I'm curious about the text below your avatar. I see, as usual, your rank increases by post count, but I've seen a handful of somewhat... random ranks in my time here!

Would anybody care to explain the ranking system, and custom titles?

Thanks!

When you get to 250 posts, you get to set your own user title (And it lets you store more PM's, 250).

I see. Thought it'd be on the forum rules, but maybe not. Will start thinking of a title now

I'm so glad I read this - I was wondering about that myself but wasn't curious enough yet to ask.

Just another perk for our regulars

If you can think of any other cool features we could offer, I'd be interested to hear them

Didn't want to pollute the forum with another totally random, curiosity based thread, so thought I'd just add on...

Do moderators get some sort of special, lineless signature, or does DaveMo(can't find the squiggle key) type in his name and the smiley in manually every time he makes a post?!

I've wondered about that, too. It's too bad I don't post as much as other people.

BTW, the "squiggle key" is found under the escape key and left of the 1 key.

It's called a tilde:

1. the diacritic mark (~) placed above an n in some orthographies to indicate a palatalized sound, as in Spanish ca–on. 2. the same mark placed above a vowel in phonetic transcription to indicate that the vowel is nasalized. 3. It signifies the end of a line or a field in some of the database files.

The tilde is the easiest key to find since it's at the far left of the numbers line on the standard American keyboard (forgot at the moment what they call that keyboard).

The tilde is often used in dictionaries when a word or sentence is not completed. For example, if there were listings of other words used with "feet", the ~ might be substituted for the word, like cold ~, two left ~, etc.

So, the DaveMo~ means that there is something left to the name and has been omitted on purpose.

And in answer to the question, I type in my name and the smiley with every post! It could be in the sig.

Dave

Wow, you learn so much every day...

Shame I have a laptop keyboard. Not that I need the ~ anyway!

DaveMo, over 6,050 (correct @ time of writing), you've spent a whole 50 minutes writing that end bit, assuming it takes half a second each time.

Time to get some custom signature moddage going methinks!

I'm not exactly sure what you're saying there, but if you're using a Windows box, you could always use the "Character Map".

A half second per post would be really really fast, huh? An average would probably be around a minute per post, even though I know a few that are a lot more!
