I am literally tearing my hair out with my forums at http://www.worldofchat.co.uk/Forum/

They are sooooo slow at the moment, they tend to go thru periods of being ok then being really slow, i have done about every test i can think of with the software (vbullitin) to make sure thats ok, i dont think its that i could be wrong, ive pruned the users and the threads etc taken just about every bit of load i can think of away from the server.

Im thinking its a problem with the sql database and have got onto my host, who are completely useless and have made no attempt to help me at all, they say they have checked the database and they can log in ? which means nothing as far as i am concerned.

Do you think it is the database ? or have i got it totally wrong

I have tried loading your forum, but after waiting a very long time, it came up asking me if I wanted to open or save index.php (in the forum directory). This is certainly not right. It sounds to me like a problem with your hosting company not you. If you are having trouble with them trying to help you then I would seriously consider moving to another hosting company. On my second try, I was just presented with a blank page. Get in contact with them again and if they are not helpful this time, then consider a move.

yeah the problem has gone away for now, it will return im sure lol, ive made the decision to move them anyhow

It's not fast, but not slow either. Piece of advice, don't always listen to what your ISP is saying. Find another site that's hosted on the same server as your forum and see how it responds. Make sure that site is also database-driven. It could be their db servers that are slowing your forum down.
