I'm making a simple ecommerce website which will contain many different products to be purchased. I've tried using OSCommerce and such, but would rather make my own.

My only question is, should a database be used to add products, or should the products be added page-by-page?

Unfortunately I don't really understand how databases work, and I'm not sure if I need to learn or not.

Use a database

It will be much easier as things get more complicated.

Alright, now is there somewhere where I can learn how to implement/create a database? Books, etc?

I have MySQL and phpMyAdmin on my server.

Learning MySQL is a good start. Once you've gotten through that, MySQL in a Nutshell is a great reference. Also, make sure you check out the MySQL documentation.
