I tried creating a user and database for mysql using phpmyadmin. But I can login to phpmyadmin with the user, just that there doesn't seem to have an option to change the user password, am I missing any privileges?

Do you have cpanel? I use cpanel to set up a data base and I use phpmyadmin to administer the data bases.

If you have cpanel click mysql.Data Bases and create one and then add a user and password.

Hope this helps

Don't really use phpmyadmin to manage mysql databases, more of a commandline guy, so can't really say if it has features specifically to manipulate user passwords or not. Though one thing you can do if you have permission to access and modify "mysql" database, is to update "users " table with new password.

As your main user that has privileges, and on the main PhpMyAdmin page go to Databases -> Privileges tab -> click the edit button next to the user and if you have the privilege to do so, there is a section to change their password.
