When naming a mapping/joining table to define a many to many relationship, for example table: people and table: organisation, is there a naming convention that should be used to indicate which table is on the left? for example, organisationPeople, or peoplOrganisation?

Thanks,

Correct, it technically doesn't matter so name them whatever makes it easiest to identify them and their purpose later.
