I was wondering if any one had any experience in extracting/exporting data from Firebird,Interbase or Sybase into flat file or csv. and the encoding of the export? can it be unicode, utf-8, or wcyrillic encoded?

I know there are various free or commercial data extraction tool for these DB, as I am going on client site to do the data extraction, don't know I am expecting.

Any comment on or experience in these DBs would be greatly appreciated!!

Sorry, I never used any of them...

The encoding depends on (1) the data you want to export, and (2) how you intend to use it. If there's nothing but integer values, obviously, encoding doesn't matter as these will be encoded as binary. If you have text that doesn't fit into UTF-7, you'll have to use UTF-8 or higher, possibly Unicode.

Try running one of the free extraction tools, and looking at the data it produces.
