Im currently designing a website...
.....its a directory of fishing venues

.....im designing it in dreamweaver and i have microsoft access...

but have not started compiling the database yet

..... i have a list of all the venues i need to add, and all the information(contacts, descriptions. etc)
but this information is in paper form ....some is in spreadsheets... and some is just generaly on the internet....

.... i need to make a database of all the info.... and then publish it to an individual .html file for each venue.....

....but i have no idea of doing it without copying and pasting 1000s of venues into the dreamweaver page from the database tables ....

i have basic knowledge of codes and tech talk stuff so please dont start talking too technical ...... thanks

also it needs to be updatable.....so if someone wants to change details etc.
and the database needs to contain information that will not be displayed on the webpage.... eg... subscription dates and customer contacts etc

is this posible and like the title says ....where do i start?

I'd like to help you on this project. I absolutely love to fish, and create websites too! What a knock-out punch! Send me some details on the site and more details as for what is required to be accomplished. Are you willing to compensate for this project, or is it free? I think you will be better off using MySQL structure. Are you familiar with that db structure?

Are you sure this needs to be customer built? Maybe you can make use of one of the many CMSes (content management systems) out there. Many are free to use (e.g. Joomla, Drupal etc).

mysql is the best choise and you can find plenty of tutorials on the web. even on youtube are a lot of movies about how to design a database in mysql

if its not going to be a high traffic website go with designing and coding yourself. Otherwise seek help and you will be happy in the long run that you did.. :-)

First write down all the type of imformation your'll want in your DB, write a database
schema (keep it simple), choose your database software (if in doubt try MySQL), install and create the DB tables, add a web input form, a search form, and a script to display each venue. It not that hard, but a professional would probably do it quicker than you.

use lamp ... its always easy and mysql is the easiet database

I would recommend lamp too.

start with the template then with your content and lastly, the link building.

first of all you should write down the information u need, then create a database ,
and choose the software which support your database.

stop being afraid - jump in and do it yourself - others (even me) can only want to partake of your activities for their own gain

go to google. or msn. or yahoo. or aol. ask those machines how to set up a database. there's a dozen different ways - try as many of them as you can. learn the difference the hands-on way - then in 10 years you can laugh at how many people think they know about technology but haven't got a clue! eg did you know that 90% of forums and blogs (including this site) are COMPLETELY hackable using "php injections"... there's an infinity to learn, matey, and you won't learn it by asking other people to do your job of using their brain for you - i think that's the point of the sardonic post about forex, actually, although it does double as a piece of spam, which makes it, in the end, a weak joke, since it is still managing to sell itself for its own commercial purpose, and comedy is NOT a sales pitch, it never should be.
